A Salute to Chris Burke

October 10, 2005

A Well Deserved Congratulations!

I would like to congratulate Chris Burke of the Houston Astros for his 18th inning heroics on Sunday night. I was fortunate enough to coach him for 2 full seasons of high school baseball at St. Xavier High School in Louisville, KY. From day one he was a true leader, the hardest worker on the team and a flat out positive person. His talent level is extremely high, as we all know, but his love for the game, work ethic and focus are the three main elements that have guided him to the Bigs. As a Coach, I am so proud to say that I had an opportunity to work with him as a young prospect. He is one of those special players that not only learns very quickly but also teaches all of us, including the coaches, a lot about the game. Most importantly, how to love the game every day you get a chance to be around it………I’m sure he’s loving the game today and he deserves every minute of it! Finally, we mustn’t forget that he’s a middle infielder by trade but is currently playing in the outfield because that’s what the Astros need. Never a complaint from him; just results! Bottom line: he’s a baseball ballplayer…

Congratulations Chris!
